Hi everyone! Welcome to my first blog post!
I'm currently on maternity leave after having my second bub. Along with his older sister, he takes up so much of my time just feeding, settling, changing, repeat, repeat etc etc, that I haven't really had much time for sewing. So when I saw the Sewpony Sewing Contest I had the perfect excuse to get out the sewing machine!
I've had this amazing metallic silver shiny unicorn fabric from Timeless Treasures in my (rather large) fabric stash for ages and just hadn't found the right project for it. I knew it would be perfect to make the Juliette Dress.
I added the collar option to the dress instead of the ruffle as I had some green fabric that I thought would match perfectly. I tried to stay away from matching it with the obvious choice of pink for a little twist. I also added a shiny metallic silver bias binding hem on the bottom for another bit of interest - like there isn't enough going on with my choices already!
I made my own bias binding for the neckline, added a button placket and 3/4 sleeves to the dress, which were all included in the very easy to understand step-by-step instructions which also included photos showing each of the steps. I'm someone that needs to know what i'm doing step-by-step, so I found this great.
Here are some photos of the finished product. My daughter is a very unwilling and uncooperative model, but I managed to get some great shots regardless.
Gotta love a dress with pockets!!
Above are some close up details of the metallic silver bias binding I used on the hemline, and the collar and button placket.
The fabric and trimming choices are totally different to what I would normally choose, but I love the way it turned out....and little Miss didn't want to take it off, so I think that's a great sign that she loves it too!
